You Still Have Time

There is still time to purchase Thanksgiving related subjects. This is the time I start feeling an urge to take days off school and be free to plan menu’s, get caught up on the house, shop and scrapbook. It is too early though! I cannot lose 8 days of school! So here is the plan: change the format of school. I have always fought within myself the idea that school work means paper work! You would think by now I would have gotten over it, but I LOVED to do paper work when I was in school. It was a pleasure to me! But sometimes kids just need a break from the monotony of the day and still be learning. Use the Pockets of Time with a holiday reading book and you have your reading/comprehension program done! Use the Pockets of Thanks for your copywork- here are a few suggestions for using that: have kids type the quote in an email and you have your typing, dictate the quote and you have your spelling words, make quote into a small poster, deocrate and hang in your room and you have your art. There are many ways to use these products to help you get through these next two weeks of holiday urges! If we enjoy the holiday and are not stressed out by school, we make better memories for the kids. If your kids are anything like mine(boy, I hope mine are normal), if you give them too much time off school, they create more work for me. Using these school enhancers FEELS like a break from our hard schedule, yet the learning is still very thorough. We parents can be so tricky!!!

Here are the titles you can still order:

Magic Treehouse book #27

We have completed a Pocket of Time for Thanksgiving on Thursday. Here is the write up that explains what  Pocket of Time means:

Annie and Jack travel to the first day of the feast of thanks. They meet Squanto, a Pilgrim named Priscilla, try to gather food, and learn of the early settler’s days. As the book is read, flashcards with events are colored and placed in order. These color coded cards are placed in pockets. Our newly designed pockets hold two chapters of cards per page. Using the Magic Treehouse books gives you a wonderful way to learn of past historical events. Using our Pockets of Time is the perfect way to verify their comprehension. Enjoy!

We are using our new 2 pocket per page template with this P.O.T.. This will save some time and paper. You can find all our Pockets of Time on our web site or at the Homeschool Estore.

New Copywork for Thanksgiving

Never in a million years would I have guessed my sons would LOVE copywork. But they do! This is the first year I have used this type of activity. I knew there were benefits from it. I TRUSTED Charlotte Mason when she said that, but I just didn’t want one more thing to do. I have found that it didn’t cost me any time, no heartache or suffering, and very little money. So, becoming believers in copywork this year, we decided to do our first copywork book! We are using our pocket template to hold all the quotes, Scriptures and poems. This first Pocket of Copywork is with a theme of thanksgiving. This can be used all month long. There are 30 different copywork lessons to choose from. Choose any order you want or only the ones you feel your child will enjoy. Decorating the pockets and the papers the kids write on, you also have a nice little artistic collection at the end of the month. Look for December pocket at the end of the month. Theme will be winter, snow, advent, etc.

Our Pockets of Copywork are very inexpensive and  available at our website or at the Homeschool Estore.

Interactive Friday Activity!

This link is to a site that deals with making change. While it is true that most places have a cash register at work, one still has to be able to take a certain amount of money out of the drawer to give back. The cash register only tells you HOW much to give back. Our children need to know how to get that amount of money from various denominations. This site helps with that. There are three levels of difficulty. That makes it nice for multiple grades and for advancement. Besides just the counting aspect, there are very nice lesson plans about money: the history of American coins, American bills, using coins and bills together. I think you will find this site useful.

It takes a minute to load up the graphics. Be patient. At the bottom you will find the lesson plans. Enjoy!
